Requirements and Limitations

This topic lists supported OLAP servers and describes data providers that need to be installed on a web server to establish an OLAP connection. You will also learn about pivot grid features that are not supported in OLAP mode.

Expanded Supported OLAP Servers

The following OLAP servers are supported:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services;
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services;
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services;
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services;
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services (Multi-dimensional mode);
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Analysis Services (Multi-dimensional mode);
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Analysis Services (Multi-dimensional mode).
Note

  • When using MS SQL Server Analysis Services 2005, MS SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 1 is required, SP2 is preferred.
  • When using MS SQL Server Analysis Services 2000, SP4 is required.
  • In MS SQL Server Analysis Services 2000, cube dimension members with DBNull values are not supported by ASPxPivotGrid.

Expanded Data Provider Requirements and Limitations

To use the OLE DB and ADOMD.NET providers, ASPxPivotGrid requires Microsoft Analysis Services OLE DB and Microsoft ADOMD.NET providers to be installed on the web server. To learn more, see Data providers used for Analysis Services connections.

Note that the following limitations are applied when using OLE DB and ADOMD.NET providers.

  • Using an OLE DB data provider to establish a connection to a Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services requires that the application should run in a Single-Threaded Apartment (STA) mode.
  • When binding to local cubes, use either an OLE DB or ADOMD.NET provider, but not both. After you have established a connection using one of the providers, the other becomes unavailable from the current process. For instance, if you try to connect to a local cube using OLE DB, then disconnect and connect again using ADOMD.NET to the same or another cube file from the same process, an exception will be thrown.

Expanded OLAP Mode Limitations

The following features have certain specifics in an OLAP mode:
