Getting Started

This section will guide you through the process of the CodeRush extension installation and briefly describe its main features. Follow the steps below to add the CodeRush extension to your Visual Studio 2015 (the process is similar for higher versions of Visual Studio).

The CodeRush extension is shipped using the Visual Studio Gallery and can be installed directly from the Visual Studio IDE. Open the Tools | Extensions and Updates... menu item.

Select the Online tab at the left part of the Extensions and Updates window.

Use the search box at the top of the window to find the CodeRush extension. Select it and click Download.

Wait until the downloading process is finished.

Before installing the extension, accept the end-user license agreement and click Install if you agree with all its terms.

After a successful installation, the extension will become marked installed in the Extensions and Updates list. To finish the installation and run the extension, press Restart Now.

Once the Visual Studio is restarted, the registration window will pop up. Choose the required option and follow the on-screen instructions to activate your trial or paid license.

For detailed information on registration window and the offline registration process, refer to the GUI Install Mode article.

After activating the license, you need to restart Visual Studio.

If you don't know how to start using CodeRush, refer to the First Steps section.

If you used the CodeRush Classic extension earlier and you need to migrate your settings, refer to the Migrating from CodeRush Classic topic.
