Visualization Tools

Visualization Tools is a set of features for the code editor window. These features add visual improvements that increase code readability. This article describes each feature in detail.

Expanded Structural Highlighting

Note

To enable this feature, use the Quick Setup options page, Editor | All Languages | Structural Highlighting options page or the CodeRush Visualize toolbar.

This feature supplements your code with lines that highlight block boundaries.

Expanded Right Margin Line

Note

To enable this feature, use the Quick Setup options page, Editor | All Languages | Right Margin Line options page or the CodeRush Visualize toolbar.

The Right Margin Line helps you limit the code line's length if you code style guides include such a limitation. The margin does not prevent you from typing but indicates where to break a line and see which lines extend past the margin.

The Right Margin Line appearance is highly configurable. You can also use the margin value specified on the Editor | <Language> | Formatting | General options page for the supported languages.

Expanded Region Painting

Note

To enable this feature, use the Quick Setup options page, Editor | All Languages | Region Painting options page or the CodeRush Visualize toolbar.

The Region Painting feature adds a custom #region directive representation that reduces visual noise to make the code look clearer.

Expanded Member Icons

Note

To enable this feature, use the Quick Setup options page, Editor | All Languages | Member Icons options page or the CodeRush Visualize toolbar.

With this feature enabled, each class member is supplemented with a corresponding icon. The icon appearance depends on the member type (for example, a field, property, method, etc.) and the access modifier (for instance, public, private, etc.).

You can instantly change the access modifier using the Member Icon Menu. You can invoke it by clicking the corresponding Member Icon.

Note

The Member Icon Menu also gives access to the Jump to and Move Member to Region features.

Expanded Show Color

Note

To enable this feature, use the Quick Setup or Editor | All Languages | Show Color options page.

Show Color simplifies the process of working with color in code. Each color identifier is marked with a color sample that enables you to see the specified color.

The CodeRush Color dialog enables you to visually choose the most suitable color from the palette. To open the CodeRush Color dialog, click the color sample at the bottom of the code.
