Creating Dashboards

To create a new dashboard, switch to the Documents screen.

Click the Add Dashboard button to run the Web Dashboard Designer.

This tutorial illustrates how to create a basic dashboard bound to a sample Northwind database. To learn how to create data models with the DevExpress Report Server, see Manage Data Models and Connect to Data.

For complete information on creating and customizing dashboards, see the DevExpress Dashboard documentation.

To add a data source to a new dashboard, click the Dashboard Menu button.

On the Dashboard Menu, click Data Sources.

In the Used Data Sources section, click Add.

In the Dashboard Data Source Wizard, select a data model. When only one data model exists in the Report Server, this wizard page is omitted.

Select an existing query or create a custom query from scratch.

On finishing the wizard, a new data source is added to the dashboard. If required, you can add a new query or calculated field to the data source.

Close the Dashboard Menu and add a List Box from the Filter category of the Toolbox. Select the created list box and click its "gear" icon.

Add a new dimension and select a data column (e.g., Employee Name).

Close the list box customization menu and add a Choropleth Map to the dashboard. Select the created map and click its "gear" icon.

On the map customization menu, click Add Map and select the required data column (e.g., Product Total).

On the same menu, click Set Attribute and select the ShipCountry column.

The following image illustrates the resulting dashboard. Selecting one or more employees in the list box will display the corresponding data on the map.

After saving this dashboard to the Report Server database, you can schedule the execution and delivery of a corresponding task as described in the following section: Schedule a Document and Select Subscribers.
