Binding to a Data Source Using WCF Server

The PivotGridControl automatically operates in server mode if it is bound to appropriate supported data source. This example shows how to access WCF service from a Windows Forms application using the Server Mode.

To follow this tutorial, a working WCF service that can be tested and accessed is required. To learn more about creating a WCF data service, see the following MSDN topic: Creating the Data Service.

Creating Service Reference

  1. After creating the WCF data service, add a new service reference to the project.

Click the Discover button and select the created WCF service (.svc).

Click OK and rebuild the project.

Binding a Pivot Grid Control to the WcfServerModeSource component

  1. Drag the WcfServerModeSource component and drop it onto the Form.

  2. Specify the WcfServerModeSource.KeyExpression property.

  3. Specify the query using the WcfServerModeSource.Query property. This property must be set in code.

  4. Bind the Pivot Grid control to the created WcfServerModeSource component.

To learn how to bind the PivotGridControl to data using the Data Source Configuration Wizard, see the WCF Data Services tutorial.
