Skins

The Grid Control as well as other DevExpress .NET WinForms controls supports the Skinning technology. A skin is a set of bitmaps that determine how a control's elements should be painted in all its possible states (normal, hot-tracked, selected, pressed, etc.).

Skins extend the standard set of painting schemes introduced by the LookAndFeel mechanism (Flat, UltraFlat, Style3D, WindowsXP and Office2003). When using skins your application will look the same under all operating systems. When using other painting schemes the application's look and feel will differ slightly under different operating systems.

The following image shows a grid control painted using the Caramel skin:

Skins is a part of the Look And Feel Mechanism. So to apply a skin to a grid control the control's LookAndFeel property should be customized.

For more information on skins refer to the Skins document.
