Paragraph and Tabs Dialogs

The Paragraph dialog enables end-users to format text (change the alignment of text and spacing between lines, specify paragraph indents, etc.).

From the Paragraph dialog, end-users can invoke the Tabs dialog allowing them to set the tab stops and their characteristics.

By default, the Paragraph dialog is available via the context menu of the RichEditControl.

Also, you can provide end-users with the capability to invoke the Paragraph dialog via the Paragraph toolbar or Ribbon page group. To do this, provide Bars or Ribbon UI for the RichEditControl (see How to: Create a Simple Word Processor with a Bar UI or How to: Create a Simple Word Processor with a Ribbon UI) and create the Paragraph toolbar or Ribbon page group from the Home group of bars.

Invoke the Paragraph dialog via Bars UI

Invoke the Paragraph dialog via Ribbon UI

To invoke the Paragraph and Tabs dialogs you can use the ShowParagraphFormCommand and ShowTabsFormCommand commands.

To programmatically modify paragraph formatting, use the Paragraph object or ParagraphProperties interface. You can access the collection of paragraphs (the Paragraph objects) in a document via the SubDocument.Paragraphs property and paragraphs in a particular section via Section.Paragraphs. To access the interface for a particular document range, use the SubDocument.BeginUpdateParagraphs and SubDocument.EndUpdateParagraphs pair of methods.

To modify tab stops in a particular paragraph, use the ParagraphPropertiesWithTabs.BeginUpdateTabs and ParagraphPropertiesWithTabs.EndUpdateTabs paired methods .

To get an example on how to modify paragraph formatting in code, refer to the How to: Change Formatting of the Current Paragraph document.

To customize the default Paragraph or Tabs dialog (modify captions, set default dialog values, implement custom validation, etc.) or substitute it with completely new dialog, handle the RichEditControl.ParagraphFormShowing or RichEditControl.TabsFormShowing event. To get an example of the dialog replacement, refer to the How to: Customize the Search Form or How to: Customize the Hyperlink Form document.
