Filter Dropdowns

Filter dropdowns provide a UI for applying filter criteria against columns/card fields. You can choose between multiple filter dropdown presentation modes, and customize the filter dropdown view and behavior options. For general information on filtering data, see the Filtering Overview document.

Expanded Online Video

This video shows the data filtering features available in the Data Grid, including:
- filter dropdown lists;
- custom Filter Dialogs;
- most recently used filter values;
- filter dropdowns for date-time values;
- checked lists in filter dropdowns.
Learn what's available by default, and how to disable or customize these data filtering UI elements.

Expanded Filter Dropdowns

Filter dropdowns are supported for columns in the GridView and its descendants, and for card fields in the CardView and LayoutView. End-users can invoke filter dropdowns as follows.

You can choose between four filter dropdown presentation styles.

  • Excel-inspired (default) - The filter dropdown provides a tabbed UI that displays column values and provides filtering options most suitable the column's data type.
  • Regular List - The filter dropdown is rendered as a list of column values.
  • Checked List - The filter dropdown is rendered as a checklist of column values.
  • Calendar (for Date-Time columns) - The filter dropdown displays an embedded calendar and check boxes to select common date intervals.

The style of column filter dropdowns can be set at three levels.
  1. Application level

    The WindowsFormsSettings.ColumnFilterPopupMode static property specifies the default column filter dropdown style for all GridControls in your application.

  2. Control level

    A View's ColumnViewOptionsFilter.ColumnFilterPopupMode property (ColumnView.OptionsFilter.ColumnFilterPopupMode) specifies the default column filter dropdown style in a certain View. This setting overrides the WindowsFormsSettings.ColumnFilterPopupMode global setting.

  3. Column level

    A column's OptionsColumnFilter.FilterPopupMode property (GridColumn.OptionsFilter.FilterPopupMode) specifies the filter dropdown style for a specific column. This setting overrides the ColumnView.OptionsFilter.ColumnFilterPopupMode setting.
